JAMES D. BONNESEN

James D. Bonnesen passed away at 83 on August 27, 2026 in Winfield, Kansas.

James was born on December 20th, 1942 in Hutchinson, Kansas. The eldest of five born to George D. Bonnesen and Vernie L. Williams Bonnesen.

James served proudly in the United States Navy, his career spanned 30 years until he decided to retire on November 30th, 1992. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Battle “E” Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Camp Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal.

James was a member of the NRA. He was an avid hunter and often could be found out hunting with his brothers. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with electronics and woodworking as well.

James is survived by his first wife Kathryn Combs (December 31, 1966 to July 19, 1982) their four daughters and their families. Jeni and Shane Whited, Jaci Garcia, Jessica and Rey Roque and Kati Collins. James is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandkids

On November 1st 1984 James met and married Georgia L. Nicolay in Miami, Oklahoma, Sadly Georgia passed away on July 10th 2004. James shared a close bond with Cliff and was deeply loved. James is survived by their two sons and their families, Jeff and Natalie Harrington and Cliff and Kari Stuck. James is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

James was a longtime resident of the Kingman community having returned from Washington state after retiring from the Navy. He cared deeply for his family and will be missed. James is also survived by his sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law and multiple nieces and nephews along with their families. Rest in Peace Jim.

Funeral services will be held with Military Honors on Tuesday – September 22, 2026 at 11am at the Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman, Kansas. The family will be receiving family and friends beginning at 9:30am until the start of the service. Burial will be held in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman.
